Mental illness-Real or not real?

Has anyone noticed that EVERYBODY seems to be taking some sort of antidepressant, anti-psychotic, stimulant or sleeping pill. About a third of school age children are taking some kind of adhd medication. Honestly I believe in real mental disease that must be treated. Someone said that mental illness isn't real because 200 yeas ago there wasn't depression or anxiety or adhd. I agreed with this statement, all though I feel that the rise of these disorder's stem more from the evolution and expectation of the would. We must conform to what world says is normal. 200 years ago people were to busy trying to survive to be anxious or depressed. The hyper active ones and the impulsive ones were the split-second do'ers that lived to see another day. Now, in 2011 we, as a people have become spoiled and complacent and bored. We have central heat and air, and the 1$ menu from Mc Donald's. Our primal instincts search for challenges and finds little. Here in lies the development of depression and anxiety and ext. Lets add to that, pre packaged food and preservatives and pesticides, ext. If you cannot conform to "normal" then you medicate ad psycho- analyze, beginning at about 1st grade. There is really nothing inherently wrong with these adhd kids. Children aren't meant to sit still for hours at a time They all have there own wonderful personalities and yes some are constantly bouncing around while others might daydream. Society has created a mold that we all must fit into. We must medicate in order to be part of our community. What side are you on? All opinions are welcome.

It's summer now and there has been this guy that I have been into since september 2010, and when we first started talking (as friends) it was sexual and ever since then it was always sexual, and I had no problem with it. I've seen 2 episodes and it seems like a high school musical knockoff. Also it might mention some of the issues in high school, but being a high schooler it doesn't seem to deal with them. I am 20 years old 5"11 and 145 lb. I always lift heavy and never lower the weight I bench 270lb, bicep curl 55lb dumbbell and leg press 550lb. Some people at the gym remind me about form and how I should lower the weight. Should I take this approach and focus on form rather than always lifting heavy weights. Also I am beginning to wonder because even though I lift heavy weights my body frame stays the same and I think it is because of my form. Should I lower the weight and when I get to 10 reps increase because what I do now is as soon as I get to 5-6 reps I up the weight. Is form better to build muscle rather than heavy weight. Hi, I haven't used matlab too long and I haven't found anything by searching online so I thought I would ask here. I have a 4 dimensional array and also a 2 dimensional matrix. We'll call the 4 dimensional array (a,b,3,d) and the 2 dimensional matrix (3,d). What I want is to take a given element in the 2 dimensional matrix (i,j) and multiply (a,b,i,j) by that. Is there any other good way to do this other than by using a loop?

So, I;ve been friends with my boyfriend for years, we started dating 11 months ago, and my mom has never liked him. But now heres the problem, He's 18 and I'm 16, so he could get in alot of trouble, but we are very very careful, as in theres pretty much absolutely no touching, so he won't be permanetly labeled as a sex offender and what not. But my mom snuck my phone, and went through my messages. The only thing in there is him waking me up with a phone call like he does every morning, and reminding me to eat throughout the day because he actually pays attention to my eating disorder. So now, she is completely freaking out, and shes threatening to call the police about him, when he has done absolutely nothing wrong. He has the same family problems that I do, so he can get a little emotional, but he never harms me, he never does, he doesn't even yell at me, ever. We have fought only those few times when we broke up for two days, and he has also given me a promise ring. He wasn't able to graduate with the rest of his class this year, because he was going back and forth from illinois and michigan, so he had to make up credits, but hes doing that through online school, while working, helping his mom pay off the house, and trying to find an apartment. But my mum doesn't accept like him simply because she scares him, and will hardly hold a conversation with him, then yells that he won't talk to her, and she notices him avoiding her, but he doesn't he is extremely respectful, and the rest of my family loves him. What can he do, or say, to make her at least accept him? Okay, Grandma wants a new kitchen. She's living in a cute but tired California Ranch-style home. My vote is always for hard-wood floors for a new kitchen (worthy of being photographed for a magazine). But Grandma likes "sheet" flooring, because it is easier to clean and she's old school - so no tile (grout) or wood slats (spaces between the slats). They then come up with stats showing that college grads make more money than others, etc. But as an outsider looking in, why should taxpayers be subsidizing something that is by no means a basic human right, is non-essential to living. I have a 7 month old boy who I love. He is my mums first grandchild, she has had all girls and when she found out I was having a boy she was over the moon. She was great at first helping me out and giving me loads of support, but now it seems like she is forgetting he is my child and not hers. By cruel I mean non-discriminatory and random. A cat will dangle a mouse between its paws for curiosity or fun, apparently unaffected by the distress it is causing it. A flood can come and destroy all the edible crops in a region, leaving all the animals who rely on it to starve, and in turn giving its competitors a chance to survive and thrive. It just seems extremely random and cruel that some species survive while others die out.

Aspergers question at 20 years old?

Ok, I'm 20 years old, and today my girlfriend told me I might have aspergers. She wasn't being mean, she just said I remind her of her brother, who has aspergers. I researched it, and honestly, it seems like to me it's more of an attitude problem than an actual disease. My conclusion was that any slight improvement was only at one narrow angle off attack, and they actually added parasite drag above and below the optimum AOA. The fuel burn on a turbine powered aircraft would but it above or below the optimum AOA for over 1/2 of a long flight. Yes, the books are very much Team Eric vs. Team Bill, though it's actually split down the middle as to which side the "author" favors. How to deal with my horrible mother?

So my mother complains all the time that she does not have anyone to take care of her and pamper atleast one whole day (since my parents are divorced she gets very lonely). So I start...and since I dont cook too often I happen to take longer than what she would take to cook the same thing..Obviously. So just when I'm about done, she yells from the bedroom (where is is just lazing around) if I'm planning on providing her with breakfast or dinner because I'm taking so long! I'm like I'm done, here it is. She is so unhappy and starts eating and complaining about how long I took to make it and how I am so slow and how I still have to learn to do things right and how I'm incapable of providing her a happy breakfast etc...etc. At this point my blood is boiling....On top of making her breakfast and trying to do something nice, this ***** wants to complain on how I could not do it according to her standards! I just want to scream and say SCREW YOU *****, YOU DESERVE NOTHING! But instead I control my temper and tell her to stop nagging for which she explodes like a latent volcano and starts yelling at me and throwing stuff and acting like a psychotic poodle! I try to reason with her and tell her to calm down and she slaps me!!!!!!! At this point I lose my temper and start yelling too (I really wanted to slap her back but obviously I can't slap my mom). THe fact that things are constantly being improved means that they were flawed to begin with, but since helicopters will fly way more often then they fail helicopters are good enough.

There was a commercial for IFC and in the commercial they showed scenes from movies which I am familliar with, but there was one scene where a man is in bed screaming and a dark haired woman covered in blood laying is next to him. It's a white bedroom and the actor has black hair and for some reason reminds me of Kramer from Seinfeld. I'm assuming the movie is from the eighties or nineties because the quality didn't look modern.

I was watching an ant crawl in the grass the other day, and I started wondering if the "spark" of life that animates it, was essentially any different than the one that animates me. I then began to wonder if it were possibly only the FORMS that life inhabits which have evolved. What if it is life ITSELF that is the driving force behind what we call evolution? "Primodial soup" theories notwithstanding, what if life is multi dimensional, and "bleeds thru" into our physical universe wherever conditions will support it? Why would you go to Heaven when you die?

This might be confusing but this is just something I thought of. Everyone agrees we live in the 3rd dimension. If you take time (or duration) as the 4th (as stated in the 10 dimensions explained video) then when you die, wouldn't your time in the 3rd dimension be done? We are 3rd dimensional figures traveling through the 4th, or time, and when we die or "end" it makes sense to me that our time is done in the 3rd dimension, whether we move up or cease to exist. Since religion is based on a 3 dimensional place you go to when you die, why would you end in the 3rd dimension just to go back there in a different form. That also seems nearly impossible you'd end in this one just to come back differently.

Top Finger Nail Ripped?

I usually grow my finger nails long and i get too lazy to cut them. I was going to cut them in a few days until my left pointer finger nail started ripping off. Not like the whole nail coming off but only the top. (The white part of the top finger nail). The skin is like attached to the nail and it's like hanging on to it. The more it came off the more it was bleeding. Right now it's like on the end of the nail and is hanging on to the skin. I am not pulling it off because it hurts a lot when i do. All i really see right now is blood and the skin peeling off. It kinda reminds me of a tooth. Like when your tooth is loose and it's hanging onto that thingy that hangs. I don't think it is. Look at how successful mainstream comedians are (Richard Pryor, Dave Chapelle, Carlos Mencia, Daniel Tosh, etc. etc.), where racist material is their normal routine on stage. It can be a laughing matter, when not taken seriously, or *not* a laughing matter, when taken seriously. The view on it is on an individual basis. Comedians are often racist on stage, and the crowd and TV audience laugh. If we can all laugh together at it, no one would get so offended. Laugh with people, not at people.

Problems with my moms boyfriend?

Okay so my moms boyfriend moved in with us about a month ago. Im 14, so I still have to live with my mom... Anyways everything was fine until he started cooking dinner for us all the time, and he would always make the oven messy and he would never wash out the food in the dish before he put it in the sink. One of my jobs is to clean the kitchen every night and wash the dishes. I asked my whole family if they would please rinse out there dishes because it makes my job a whole lot easier and quicker. The dishes still always had food in them, so I specifically asked him to rinse out his dishes, so the drainer would catch it and he told me " I cant rinse them out and cook at the same time." Im getting so tired of wasteing 10 minutes just washing food out of dishes that he cant take 5 seconds to do himself. And also spending 5 minutes washing the oven and the counter. I mean I dont except them to be crystal clear when I wash them, because part of the job is to actually wash the dishes.. But he doesnt get that it would help a lot if he did it, and I have other stuff I have to do also so it takes up an hour of my night... My mom told me to just ask him if he would but I did, 3 times, and I even put up a sign, to remind him. Also, im not the only one fed up with his sloppy ways. Im tired of having to clean everthing, just to have him dirty it up the next day. So does anyone know how I can ask him to wash out his dishes and simply clean up after himself?

Thought patterns changing, I don't feel like myself?

I am 14 years old. Lately my thought patterns have been very different. They have been WAY outside the box and it's kind of scary. Like, I might think, of how a song makes me feel, like a jazz song, and for some reason my mind just goes "I wonder if it affects alien races like this" or something of that nature, and it just goes on a loop like that. For some reason my mind seems to think that everything humans do is inherently bad or stupid. All this is making me depressed and scared. Help?
