Why is the show glee popular?

I've seen 2 episodes and it seems like a high school musical knockoff. Also it might mention some of the issues in high school, but being a high schooler it doesn't seem to deal with them. Also it seems very gay, don't call me a homophobe I am not I have a few gay friends, not to be mean it just seems to me that the audience seems so 1 dimensional, teenage girls and teenage gay guys. Also ithas ruined some very good songs old and new. Lastly the characters have no depth and don't even look the right age.
